Sausage Links

Image
Another thing I don't know how to make. I always wanted to make it at least the skinless ones but DH instructed me not to buy too much pork since they were forbidden in the bible. Anyway, I finally made it to my local (1/2 hour away) Asian market looking for dry fish, but no luck. They don't have much groceries but they cook a lot. I can buy a cook anything and bring it home, and save the house for stinking...lol. However, I rather cook my own food, I never liked buying cook anything. And since my ODS loves these Philippine style sausage I bought one pack. The owner of the store are from Batangas. We have some words that are the same, and they actually knew where I came from when I told them the name of the Island. Now, I don't feel strange with them. They know my dialect and they will never tell me that I am Bisaya. Let's get back with the sausage, I simmered them first on a little amount of water, then when the water is gone, I added a few drops of olive oil to get i

Fried Noodles/Lo Mein with Shrimp

Image
(Pansit Canton & Bihon) This is what happens when I have left over noodles enough for one meal. Then I decide to cook for everyone and just one kind is not enough. What to do? Mix them together. I also find out that my pak choy goes well with this. Yummy! There is not much vegetable with this one because non in my family except myself, loves vegetables. And since I made this everyone I had to compromise. I had to soak the rice noodles on the water to make it soft. I cooked the canton noodles with the broth and I just mix them all together when the canton was done. Please remember to add some olive oil before taking it out of the pan to prevent sticking together. I have to make another one tomorrow. Enjoy!

The Best

Image
The kids and I just finished our lunch. They had macaroni & cheese and I had steamed sweet potato tops along with fried sardines. I found some wild caught sardines in my local grocery store last week and I bought some and cook them today. I also had NAKANO Seasoned Rice Vinegar as a dip for my fried sardines. It reminds me of how the farmers eat under a shade tree in the middle of rice field in the olden days back home. I only seen it through pictures and TV shows and I wished I could have experience it. That reminds me that I still need to go to my newly found Asian store to buy dry fish, and then I can have rice vinegar with chilies or hot peppers as a dip. (Have you notice that the rice vinegar is not as acidic as the regular white vinegar around? It also smells like coconut vinegar just the way my parents use to make.) And the best part about it is sipping some hot broth from the fish or pork soup with hot rice and local fruits for dessert with your bare hands in an open field

Broiled Beef Short Ribs

I love to barbecue in the summer, but I hate the heat. We had this a few nights ago and yes I used the oven to cook it. You would think that I should cook it outside to spare the house...nope. DH enjoyed it, especially the sauce I put on it. Regular barbecue sauce with honey, he can't have enough. I know I said I hate the heat but I love the barbecues in the summer. I can have barbecue everyday if I can and if I can have every thing barbecued.

Chocolate Frosting

Image
I made two chocolate cake this week. One for our anniversary and one as a welcome home for my ODS. He's finally back from his summer vacation with the relatives. He left right after the school was over (June 12 I think), he's been on vacation every where and checked a lot of Colleges and Universities. He is getting ready for next year. Along with me teaching 3 kids this year, I will be filling up a lot of papers works just for him. Ahh, the life of a Mom. 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine 2/3 cup HERSHEY'S Cocoa 3 cups powdered sugar 1/3 cup milk 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Melt butter, Stir in cocoa. Alternately add powdered sugar and milk, beating to spreading consistency. Add small amount additional milk, if needed. Stir in vanilla. About 2 cups frosting.

Baby Red Potatoes with Chives

Image
These are steam potatoes with butter, chive, salt and pepper. It is really good with baby red potatoes. The second best recipe I like of baby red potatoes. I have not tried using fresh chives yet, but I think when using fresh ingredients the taste and smell is much better.

One Stop Game Station

Image
My family is hooked on PC games, and right now our favorites are Wolfenstein Enemy Territory & Quake Wars, and Command & Conquer the First Decade or Red Alert 3. Most of them play Wolfenstein but I prefer Command and Conquer. Even my youngest son who is 3 years old play with them, he is only allowed to play when Daddy is playing because other player does not like it when he does not follow what they ask him to do. He can’t read yet & type any messages and sometimes he gets ban because of it. However, when his father’s plays he can explain to the other players that he is only three and cannot understand them. Furthermore, if he wanted to play on his own we put him in the server with mostly robots. The only thing I don’t like about it is the language in the game and when they go to next level. We don’t make a big deal about it, and we never tell them that those are bad words. When they ask what they are saying, we simply tell them nothing important. Anyway, if you love any ty

Do You Know the Truth Behind It

Image
This written without prejudice and under reserve. Let me remind you that we are a Republic not democracy, and whoever question it read our constitution. Furthermore, let me remind you that one size fits all is not really true. So, what is the truth? The government is here because we voted them to be there and we (if you know about it) can vote them out too. If you like the ObamaSurance healthcare as invisioned byObama good for you. Do you also know that when you reach the certain age you are not cover by this so called Universal Health Care that he is talking about? Yes, it stop at the age 70. Research it, I will not give you the thread about it. My family are against anything socialize. That is the reason behind why I teach my children at home, why I don't believe in socialize medicine, why I don't believe in a large government and so on. If you believe in the constitution you know what I am talking about. The government is put there by us to protect our rights, they are not

Save Money on Lunch and Win Prizes

During my working days I always packed lunch for myself. There were times when I don’t pack anything but it was very seldom. I love these pre-pack foods that are ready in 3 minutes. I don’t need to drive somewhere to buy lunch and wait in line. Most of the time when I don’t pack lunch my whole lunch was only spent driving, buying food and looking for parking spot. Sometimes I can get away when people I knew was outside talking or what not and they watch my car for me while I’m inside a restaurant. However, they don’t happen often enough plus I was not getting paid enough to buy lunch every day. Packing lunch and buying it in bulk or in grocery store instead of restaurant was way cheaper. Furthermore, having variety of food for lunch is always good and it saves me cash. The flavors I like the most are the Stouffers-panini and seafood Lean Cuisine. Any type of seafood will do it for me however, if one office mate does not like seafood I don’t cook it for lunch because she can’t stand th

Chicken Wrap "In My Kitchen" Style

I did not feel like eating salad one day and this is what I made. Romaine lettuce, shredded cheese, chop tomatoes, slices of grilled chicken and burrito wrappers. You can basically make this the way you want or what ever fillings and dressings you like. Maybe one of the Nakano seasoning below.

Nakano Rice Vinegar

Image
You probably heard that eating raw food is better than cooking them. Most importantly if the food is organic or grows in your own backyard. You know what it contains and what feed they have eaten. I do miss fresh raw fish with rice vinegar. My father used to make it when we were little. He can’t do it anymore because he is not that young anymore to catch his own fish. However, if ever I move close to the ocean, I can make it myself and I can get my Splash Tips (just like the image below) from Mizkan.com and join their recipe club. For those of you who love and enjoy their products, you can Save $1 on Nakano Rice Vinegar by following the link I provided. For those who have not signed up yet, this is your chance. Sign up and download your $1 coupon to try one of their products. Nakano Rice Vinegar is all natural, no sodium, no sugar, zero calories, no fat and gluten free for those who have allergies.
